Title: The Sin Eater’s Daughter

Author: Melinda Salisbury

Publication Date: February 24, 2015

Excerpt from Goodreads:

I am the perfect weapon.
I kill with a single touch.

Twylla is blessed. The Gods have chosen her to marry a prince, and rule the kingdom. But the favour of the Gods has it’s price. A deadly poison infuses her skin. Those who anger the queen must die under Twylla’s fatal touch.

Only Lief, an outspoken new guard, can see past Twylla’s chilling role to the girls she truly is.

Yet in a court as dangerous and the queen’s, some truths should not be told…

Twylla as been the court’s executioner for four years. Twylla does not enjoy killing, but knows she must because she has been blessed by the Gods. When Twylla meets her new guard, Lief, she begins to learns more about herself and the palace she lives in.

I enjoyed The Sin Eater’s Daughter. This book is one of my most anticipated reads this year. Unfortunately I let the hype get to me and of course, I was let down. The Sin Eater’s Daughter was a very good book, just not as AMAZING as I had expected it to be.

I thoroughly enjoyed the world building throughout this story. The backstory of Twylla’s powers was extremely interesting. I found myself constantly intrigued about the role of the Sin Eater and the meaning behind all the food that represented the “sins” in each Eating.

The story itself wasn’t somewhat interesting until about half way through the book. The story wasn’t boring, it just wasn’t a book that I felt like a “I cannot put this book down” sort of book. Don’t get me wrong, I liked what I was reading and was fairly satisfied with the story, but I never really connected with the main character.

I felt as though the most interesting character throughout the entire book was the queen. The queen felt like she had the most depth out of all the characters. Yes, I hated her, but she’s a character you love to hate. I felt so terrible for Prince Malek. In the fews times we get some good dialog with Malek and Twylla, I felt like he was one of the most sincere characters. I wanted for so badly for Twylla to fall in love with Malek, but no. I was never a big of Lief and I hated him even more in the end…

The overall ending wasn’t actually what I wanted either, but oh well. At the end of the day, The Sin Eater’s Daughter was a decent read. I am in absolute love with this book cover and it is one of my favorites this year. I would recommend this book and I can definitely see myself reading other books by Salisbury.

Melinda Salisbury lives by the sea, somewhere in the south of England. As a child she genuinely thought Roald Dahl’s Matilda was her biography, in part helped by her grandfather often mistakenly calling her Matilda, and the local library having a pretty cavalier attitude to the books she borrowed. Sadly she never manifested telekinetic powers. She likes to travel, and have adventures. She also likes medieval castles, non-medieval aquariums, Richard III, and all things Scandinavian The Sin Eater’s Daughter is her first novel.

She can be found on Goodreads, her website, and Twitter.

  1. One of my most anticipated, and I have it, but I am scared to actually read it. Why? Hype. Monster! And I have heard some not so great things about it, and a lot of meh about it. But I am just going to suck it up and read it, and hope I am one of the ones who loves it!
