I enjoyed The Sin Eater’s Daughter. This book is one of my most anticipated reads this year. Unfortunately I let the hype get to me and of course, I was let down. The Sin Eater’s Daughter was a very good book, just not as AMAZING as I had expected it to be.

I thoroughly enjoyed the world building throughout this story. The backstory of Twylla’s powers was extremely interesting. I found myself constantly intrigued about the role of the Sin Eater and the meaning behind all the food that represented the “sins” in each Eating.

The story itself wasn’t somewhat interesting until about half way through the book. The story wasn’t boring, it just wasn’t a book that I felt like a “I cannot put this book down” sort of book. Don’t get me wrong, I liked what I was reading and was fairly satisfied with the story, but I never really connected with the main character.

I felt as though the most interesting character throughout the entire book was the queen. The queen felt like she had the most depth out of all the characters. Yes, I hated her, but she’s a character you love to hate. I felt so terrible for Prince Malek. In the fews times we get some good dialog with Malek and Twylla, I felt like he was one of the most sincere characters. I wanted for so badly for Twylla to fall in love with Malek, but no. I was never a big of Lief and I hated him even more in the end…

The overall ending wasn’t actually what I wanted either, but oh well. At the end of the day, The Sin Eater’s Daughter was a decent read. I am in absolute love with this book cover and it is one of my favorites this year. I would recommend this book and I can definitely see myself reading other books by Salisbury.

Melinda Salisbury lives by the sea, somewhere in the south of England. As a child she genuinely thought Roald Dahl’s Matilda was her biography, in part helped by her grandfather often mistakenly calling her Matilda, and the local library having a pretty cavalier attitude to the books she borrowed.
