Mini Review: Open Road Summer by Emery Lord

Title: Open Road Summer

Author: Emery Lord

Publication Date: April 15, 2014

Excerpt from Goodreads:

After breaking up with her bad-news boyfriend, Reagan O’Neill is ready to leave her rebellious ways behind. . . and her best friend, country superstar Lilah Montgomery, is nursing a broken heart of her own. Fortunately, Lilah’s 24-city tour is about to kick off, offering a perfect opportunity for a girls-only summer of break-up ballads and healing hearts. But when Matt Finch joins the tour as its opening act, his boy-next-door charm proves difficult for Reagan to resist, despite her vow to live a drama-free existence. This summer, Reagan and Lilah will navigate the ups and downs of fame and friendship as they come to see that giving your heart to the right person is always a risk worth taking. A fresh new voice in contemporary romance, Emery Lord’s gorgeous writing hits all the right notes.

A cute, endearing novel about friendship and love, Open Road Summer follows Reagan’s story as she tours with her best friend and widely known country singer, Lilah Montgomery. Reagan assumes that this trip will be the perfect distraction from her past mistakes, but plans shift as Matt Finch accompanies the girls on the tour.

Open Road Summer is just the light, contemporary for those looking for a great summer read. Hence the name Open Road Summer! I enjoyed the characters and their development throughout the story. The main character did frustrate me at times, but I really appreciated how she turned out in the end. There were moments in the book that were a bit slow, but luckily the pace picked up right when it need to! The ending was perfect and I couldn’t have asked for anything better!

  1. I am not a huge lover of the road trip type books that are becoming ever popular, but I adored this one. The characters were really relate-able, and I enjoyed it so much. I am looking forward to read The Start of You and Me
