Excerpt from Goodreads:
Ever since Sarah was born, she’s lived in the shadow of her beautiful older sister, Scarlett. But this summer on Cape Cod, she’s determined to finally grow up. Then she meets gorgeous college boy Andrew. He sees her as the girl she wants to be. A girl who’s older than she is. A girl like Scarlett.
Before she knows what’s happened, one little lie has transformed into something real. And by the end of August, she might have to choose between falling in love, and finding herself.
Fans of Jenny Han and Stephanie Perkins are destined to fall for this story about how life and love are impossible to predict.
I was provided a free copy of this book via Edelweiss in exchange for a honest and unbiased review. Humongous thanks to the publisher, HarperTeen!
Sarah, also known as Bean, had lived in the shadow of her sister Scarlett for as long at she can remember. When Sarah is dumped by her boyfriend, she decides to reinvent herself and what better place to do that than Cape Cod, where nobody knows who she is. She decides to start an experiment called the “Scarlett Experiment.” In order to gain some confidence and get herself out of her comfort zone, she begins dressing and acting like her sister, Scarlett.
Then she meets Andrew. Andrew is cute, sweet, and adores her geekiness. She didn’t expect anything serious to blossom between them, so the lies didn’t seem like such a big deal at the time. Until the lies become a very big deal. Sarah initially lies about her age, then one thing leads to another and she is lying about college and her plans for the future. As Sarah begins to have feelings for Andrew, she wants to tell him the truth, but doesn’t know how.
It was very easy to connect with Sarah and understand why she did what she did, but at the same time be completely frustrated with her! Andrew is literally the perfect book boyfriend, seriously. I really enjoyed seeing Sarah grow has a character and realize the impact that lying can have on yourself and others.
Man oh man, the feels. I didn’t expect to fall so in love with this book the way I did. I guess it’s the one you don’t expect that surprise you the most. This book slowly creeps up on you and before you realize it, you’re in love! My heart was completely and utterly broken once I finished this book. Yes, the ending is wonderfully realistic and very believable, but all the feels… Between Us and the Moon is the summer romance you have been waiting to read!
