Blackbeard the pirate was known for striking fear in the hearts of the bravest of sailors. But once he was just a young man who dreamed of leaving his rigid life behind to chase adventure in faraway lands. Nothing could stop him—until he met the one girl who would change everything.
Edward “Teach” Drummond, son of one of Bristol’s richest merchants, has just returned from a year-long journey on the high seas to find his life in shambles. Betrothed to a girl he doesn’t love and sick of the high society he was born into, Teach dreams only of returning to the vast ocean he’d begun to call home. There’s just one problem: convincing his father to let him leave and never come back.
Following her parents’ deaths, Anne Barrett is left penniless and soon to be homeless. Though she’s barely worked a day in her life, Anne is forced to take a job as a maid in the home of Master Drummond. Lonely days stretch into weeks, and Anne longs for escape. How will she ever realize her dream of sailing to Curaçao—where her mother was born—when she’s stuck in England?
From the moment Teach and Anne meet, they set the world ablaze. Drawn to each other, they’re trapped by society and their own circumstances. Faced with an impossible choice, they must decide to chase their dreams and go, or follow their hearts and stay.
Before you read this review, lets just say I have made my first “official” blogger mistake. I forgot I was apart of this tour! When I read this book, I loved it so much that I quickly wrote up a review and posted it to my blog! A few days later, I check my calendar and lo and behold, I see that I am scheduled for a blog tour for Blackhearts! So I apologize for the redundancy, but at least I get to gush more about Blackhearts!
I received this book from the publisher for free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Blackhearts is the story of two people who live two very different lives, but realize they are more alike than they ever imagined. Anne is a maid in the household of a very rich merchant. Edward Drummond, Teach, is the son of that very rich merchant. Anne and Teach’s relationship starts off with pure loathing towards each other, but slowly develops into something more the further they spend time with each other.
If you are expecting pirates and sea swept adventures, I’m going to have to tell you that you will not receive it in this book. Yet, do not pass up this book because its’ lack of pirates. Blackhearts is the origin story of Blackbeard (Teach) and who he was before he received that name. Blackhearts is the story of Teach and the family he came from. Blackhearts is also the story of the girl he fell in love with. You will not be disappointed for picking up this book.
Blackhearts is one of the best romance novels I have ever read. The romance in this novel is a super slow burn and it had me flipping through the pages faster and faster. I cannot stand instalove and this novel is the literal opposite. The romance in this book is so accurately portrayed, because seriously…who falls in love with someone they just met?
OH. MAH. GOSH. This book is everything and more. I do not know what I was expecting going into this book, but I sure as heck did not expect this beautiful masterpiece. Not only is this book extremely easily to become absorbed into, but Blackhearts captivated my attention and did not surrender its’ hold on me. Also, that ending… That ending killed me. It is an opened ended ending and as of now, Blackheartsis a standalone. However, I sincerely hope that Nicole write a sequel because I need more Anne and Teach. I would love to see Anne and Teach’s relationship develop and all the adventures they will experience together. I need more. Do you hear me Nicole? I NEED MORE. Pretty please…
Do yourself a favor and read this book.
